We could talk of could’ve had
In drunken simple fire
But morning comes for all of that
To sully base desire
You’ll leave this place and stumble home
Where comfort envelopes gently
For our hearth is warmed with loving coals
But is stoked by only wanting
I’ll believe it when I see it coming round
I can’t just wait here with my ear pressed to the ground
And no I’ll never trust what you call freedom
Because it’s a place out of reach
Something you wouldn’t need
If you managed to find it somehow
In the brown of your eyes
I see a mountain bowing
Toward rivers rich with other lives
And fields of children laughing
I know I could’ve said the words
And darling I would’ve meant em
But even waves of sweetness curl
And break on shores of cruelty
For even that which turns the world
Is shackled to the worldly

The bower broke the art of fiction
She asks me to make her come and I say,
“First tell me all about your rare affliction”
The city is a painting and I
Make out only half the words she traced
On foggy mirrors, the parsing of lips
And tapping S.O.S.
It’s anybody’s guess
And I know all she’s got left to spend
Is her time on me so let’s pretend
That I’ve got all the time in the world
And she’s got all the time in the world
So let’s spend all the time in the world
The quixotic pause and the wake that followed
The floating buoys in the lake that swallowed
Our unlaid plans and the unmade plea,
the modest mention or the fierce decree
that we are all the same
we’ve only changed the names
and all the rest remains
